Montecito Bank & Trust Appoints new CIO

April 21, 2025

Santa Barbara, Calif. – Montecito Bank & Trust’s (MB&T) Wealth Management group, with over $1.8 billion in assets under management across private clients, nonprofits and foundations, has appointed Lloyd Kurtz to the role of Chief Investment Officer, succeeding Thomas Fisher, who has transitioned to SVP / Senior Portfolio Manager. Fisher and Kurtz have worked closely over the past year to ensure a smooth transition.

A seasoned professional and nationally recognized leader in responsible and sustainable investment, Lloyd joined the Montecito Bank & Trust Wealth Management group in May 2023 as the planned successor to Mr. Fisher. Prior to joining MB&T he managed Wells Fargo’s Social Impact Investing Team; and prior to that was Chief Investment Officer at Nelson Capital Management, an investment firm owned by Wells Fargo.

Jeff Pittman, EVP/ Director of Wealth Management, noted “Our team is grateful for Tom’s expertise over the last four years, his leadership has contributed to the meaningful growth of our assets under management. The team is excited to carry that momentum forward in partnership with Lloyd in his new role. I am confident that Lloyd’s broad experience as an analyst, portfolio manager and Chief Investment Officer, combined with his expertise in goals-based investing and portfolio construction, will continue to accelerate our growth, support our high-touch client service standards, and reinforce our Wealth Management group’s leadership within Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.”

A published writer, researcher, and lecturer, Lloyd’s more than 30 years of experience includes extensive work in sustainable finance, quantitative investing, and financial planning. Looking ahead to this new chapter, Mr. Kurtz notes “Since joining MB&T I’ve been consistently impressed with the quality of the organization and its reputation within the community. Our Wealth team has a great team-oriented culture, deep capabilities, and significant growth opportunities.” As Chief Investment Officer, Lloyd leads an experienced team of investment professionals including seven portfolio managers and two investment analysts. Lloyd’s long track record of success and proficiency will help continue to grow the group’s already highly experienced team and expand their breadth of offerings to help meet increased client demand.
